The National Institute for Hometown Security

The National Institute for Hometown Security (NIHS) mission is to discover, develop, and deploy solutions that protect the nation’s community-based critical infrastructure (CI) from interruptions or destruction caused by man-made attacks or natural disasters. Our mission extends to solutions that enhance the resilience of CI and its ability to quickly recover from a disruption.

NIHS was organized in March 2004 through the leadership of Congressman Hal Rogers (KY-5) and is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) Kentucky Corporation focused on research, technology transfer and commercialization. NIHS has created and actively manages a distributed technology development enterprise that facilitates public-private partnerships between government and industry, including research partners from academia, the private sector, CI sector owners, operators and associations from all across the United States. Since inception, NIHS has successfully teamed with 50+ research partners on more than 130 projects.
